About Spartanburg SC
Spartanburg is the biggest city in the state of South Carolina, and also serves as the county seat of Spartanburg County. It is part and parcel of the 10 county area of northwest South Carolina that goes under the name of ‘Upstate.’ Spartanburg is situated 98 miles on the northwestern direction from Columbia, 80 miles from the western direction of Charlotte and around 190 miles on the northeastern direction of Atlanta.
This South Carolina city was founded in the late 18th century and was called after a local militia, which went under the name of the Spartan Regiment. This militia was commanded by Andrew Pickens. Spartanburg was incorporated as a city n 1831, and rapidly emerged as a key textile manufacturing hub. By the turn of the 20th century, it boasted of almost 40 different textile mills.

Spartanburg abounds with a wide variety of attractions that draw numerous tourists to it each and every year. To begin with, there is the Lawson’s Fork Creek that is a tributary of the Pacolet River, and was once an oasis for many wildlife species. The shores of Lawson’s Fork Creek are lined with parks and woodlands along with rocky shoals and natural waterfalls. There is as well the Cottonwood Trail, which is situated in the Edwin Griffin Nature Preserve along the Lawson’s Fork Creek. This South Carolinian city is as well home to the Magnolia Street Train Depot that has the distinction of been one of the oldest structures in the city. One of the most notable of these is, without question, the Retrofest that has the distinction of being the Southeast’s biggest disco festival which is held in the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium.
